Video: Your first look at season 4 of ‘The Vampire Diaries’

I’ve been drowning my sorrows (poor word choice?) this summer by alternating between teenage ridden guilty pleasures like ‘Pretty Little Liars’ and critically acclaimed out-of-this-world dramas like ‘Breaking Bad.’

But if I’m being totally honest (and I think we’ve reached that point where I can be openly honest with you, Internet), there’s a part of me that yearns for shows that hit both marks at once. And with this new promo for ‘The Vampire Diaries’ hitting the Internet today, I’m reminded that I won’t have to wait much longer.

Season four premiers October 11, and as you can see in the video below, we pick up right where we left off … with Elena dead on a slab in the Mystic Falls Morgue – someplace, I imagine, that sees a lot more action than most other morgues (unless, of course, that morgue is in Sunnydale, Calif.).

Elena (Nina Dobrev) is now in transition – and must kill to survive … or turn to dust a la Bill Forbes (RIP) – , Jeremy (Stephen R. McQueen) is cracking half-hearted jokes to ease his own pain, Bonnie (Kat Graham) is making yet another terrible decision and annoying the shit out of me, and Stefan (Paul Wesley) appears to be struggling with Elena’s death. But what troubles me the most is that the Brothers Salvatore are once again on opposite sides of the line when it comes to what to do next – both in terms of Elena and in terms of the future. You know how unhappy I get what brother and brother fight.

It goes without saying that Julie Plec and Co. have built a wonderful web of suspense, action and drama and I cannot wait for this upcoming season to start. With Elena as a vampire, the opportunities are endless. The show has basically gone back to square one in terms of storytelling. The love triangle is virtually brand new as Vampire!Elena will now have access to the memories Damon (Ian Somerhalder) compelled her to forget, and her feelings will undoubtedly change for each brother as she herself changes.

And let’s not forget about Klaus (Joseph Morgan) inhabiting Tyler’s body. That little sneak peak of Caroline (Candice Accola) and Tyler (Michael Trevino) in the woods has me even more excited, as I cannot wait to see how long Klaus is able to get away with his charade.

So in other words, October 11: GET HERE NOW.

PS – It felt wrong to go a complete ‘TVD’ post without at least mentioning Matt Davis’ name – so here it is. RIP Alaric – I hope we see you again very soon.
